The Swift Current Comp. Ardens are just days away from returning to the field for another high school soccer season. The Ardens will open tryouts on Monday, August 27 in preparation for their Moose Jaw High School Soccer League opener on September 8.
Tryouts will begin on August 27 and will continue for the next three days until August 30 from 6:15-7:45 p.m. each evening at Irwin School Field.
Ardens Tryouts will resume September 3 from 6:15-7:45 p.m. Once school starts the tryouts will shift to 3:45-5:15 p.m. on September 4-6.
Tryouts are open to any girls in grade 9-12 who will be attending the Comp. High School this fall. All girls are expected to be dressed in full equipment and ready to go at the scheduled start time each session.
"We open tryouts every season about a week before classes start," explained assistant coach Steven Mah. "The weather dictates that soccer season only runs the first two months of the school year and we open our league schedule four days after students return to the classroom so we really have to get back on the pitch and start working off the rust as soon as possible."
The Ardens will open their season on September 8 in Moose Jaw with games against Weyburn and Estevan. The season opener against a veteran Weyburn team will be a crucial match for the Ardens as the two teams seem destined to battle it out for top spot this season. The Ardens defeated Weyburn 6-0 in last year's league final. The Ardens enter the 2012 season with a 30-game unbeaten streak in league play and are chasing a record fourth straight league title.
Their first home game will be September 13 when they host the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones.
The Ardens have 15 players eligible to return from last year's league championship team that finished 18-3 overall, but the coaching staff anticipates a large group of grade nines who promise to challenge for roster spots this season.
"We expect this to be the most competitive tryout camp that we have had in our eight years with the Ardens," added Mah. "There is a very deep group of grade nines that played some excellent soccer for the United club teams this summer and they are poised to not only challenge for rosters spots, but also for starting positions. We expect to have some very difficult decisions this season."
