Cassidy Andres scored four times and Grade 12 striker Kaity Letwiniuk had a pair of goals in sparking the Swift Current Ardens to a 6-5 win over Regina Riffel in the opening round of the 3A Girls High School Soccer Championship in Prince Albert.
After a wild 2-2 start after less than 10 minutes, the teams battled back and forth in a tough contest before the Ardens advanced into the championship side of the eight-team tournament.
Swift Current has little time to enjoy the opening game victory, as they are back on the field at 3 p.m. to take on defending provincial champion Saskatoon St. Joseph's in one provincial semi-final showdown. The winner advances to the gold medal final, while the losing squad will compete in the bronze medal game.
The SCCHS Colts were not as fortunate in their opening round match, dropping a 3-0 decision to Saskatoon Holy Cross to fall into the B side of the provincial 3A boys soccer championship in Saskatoon.
