United U14 girls
The Swift Current Foresters United Soccer Club Under 14 Girls’ season came to an end with a semi-final appearance at Saskatchewan Soccer Association Division Two Provincials in Regina over the weekend.
The U14 girls opened the tournament with a dominating performance but could not find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw against Lloydminster Rustlers FC on Friday afternoon.
Saturday morning, the U14’s broke out of a prolonged scoring slump in a 4-1 win over the Moose Jaw Storm. Santana Gowan paced the offense with two goals and Jade Addai and Jordan Jacobson added singles as the U14’s scored three goals off of corner kicks in the win.
That afternoon, the U14 girls earned a 1-1 draw against Saskatoon Hollandia UK Elite to finish 1-0-2 in the round robin and earn a spot in the semi-finals. Captain Kelsey Therrien scored for Swift Current via a free kick from 35-yards out.
Swift Current played a strong game in the semi-finals against a balanced Saskatoon Aurora squad. They fell behind 1-0 in the first half when Saskatoon buried their only quality scoring chance of the game. Swift Current’s chance to draw even came midway through the second half when Therrien wired a 19-yard free kick off the post as the U14 United girls were shutout 1-0.
The U14 girls will lose five players to graduation, while 10 will be eligible to return next season.
