Strong defensive effort leads Riders to golden weekend

TRURO - The CC Riders went undefeated during the weekend at the Halifax Dunbrack soccer tournament to win gold in the under-16 division.

Cheltyn Morgan and Alyson Pickard-Tattrie scored in the final as the Riders defeated the host team 2-0. Taylor Lynds was the game MVP. Catie McCavour was named the tournament’s MVP while Ashley Morrell won all four games and did not allow a goal.

The Riders open the tournament with a 1-0 victory over Dartmouth with Jasleen Singh scoring the lone goal and being named the game’s MVP.

Morgan, April MacKay, and MacKenzie Rathgeber each scored as the Riders downed Dunbrack 3-0 in the second match. Morrell was named the game’s MVP. The third game against Sackville was cancelled due to lightning. The Riders took the win 4-3 in a shootout to advance to the gold medal game.
