The Swift Current Foresters United U-18 girls captured a division two provincial title in Regina.
Three Swift Current Foresters United Soccer Club teams were in Regina over the weekend for the Saskatchewan Soccer Association Division Two Provincials where two teams were able to bring home medals.
The Under-18 girls allowed only two goals in four games as they won a gold medal capped by a 2-0 win over the Aurora Roadrunners in Sunday’s championship final.
The U-18 girls finished first in the four-team round robin with a 6-0 win over the Weyburn Red Devils, a 0-0 draw against Aurora, and a 2-2 draw against the Humboldt Hurricanes.
The U-18 boys finished with a 1-1-1 record to advance to the semi-finals. The United U-18 boys defeated the Moose Jaw Storm 6-2 in the semi-final, before falling 4-3 in a shootout on Sunday afternoon to the Yorkton Dynamo in the championship final.
They posted a 1-0 win over Saskatoon Eastside Royale, a 3-3 draw against Humboldt, and a 2-1 loss to Yorkton in the round robin. Allan Siwela was named the tournament Most Valuable Player with nine goals.
The U-14 girls placed fourth out of six teams in the round robin to advance to the semi-finals. Swift Current met Saskatoon Hollandia in the semi-final, a team that had not allowed a goal against in three previous games. Swift Current did manage to score a goal but eventually lost 2-1 in a shootout.
They opened the tournament with a 0-0 draw against Prince Albert, earned a 1-0 win over the Unidad 97’s, and lost 2-0 to the Hollandia Tigers. Goalkeeper Cassandra Furey was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
