The Swift Current under-12 Foresters United indoor soccer team finished undefeated to claim a gold medal at ACFC Winterfest in Regina over the weekend. Five Swift Current Foresters United indoor soccer teams were in Regina for the ACFC Winterfest tournament from Friday until Sunday.
Three of the Swift Current entries were able to reach Sunday’s championships matches with two teams managing to collect gold medals with undefeated performances.
The United under-12 boys were the most dominant squad as they reeled off four straight wins while out-scoring their opponents 33-3. They capped their weekend with a 4-1 win in the championship final over the hometown REU United. They also posted a 13-1 win over the UCT Riders, an 8-0 shutout of the host AC Pumas Red, and an 8-1 win against Regina’s QC United.
The U-18 United girls also posted four wins as they scored 14 goals and allowed only two goals against. They wrapped up a gold medal with a 2-0 win over the Humboldt Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon. The U-18 girls also posted a 1-0 win over the Oakbank Pink Strikers, a 4-2 win over the Hollandia Estudiantes, and a 7-0 shutout of the Eastside CUJS.
The U-12 girls also advanced to the championship match where they were upended 3-2 by the Bonivital Inferno Red. The U-12 girls had a perfect round robin without allowing a single goal during three dominating wins. They defeated the AC Tigres 5-0, the Prince Albert Celtic 4-0, and the SUSC Tiggers 4-0 as their strong season continued.
The U-16 boys lost a pair of close games as they finished 1-2 and missed the finals. They opened with a 1-0 loss to SUSC Arsenix, followed by another 1-0 loss to Regina QC. They wrapped up their tournament with a 3-2 win over Phoenix.
The U-18 boys managed only a single point in the round robin as they also missed the finals. They opened with a 4-2 loss to the YUFC Dynamo, followed by a 4-1 loss to Portage Trail Inter, before drawing 2-2 against the REU Nitro.
