AMHERST - The Amherst Vikettes won by a score of 3-2 in their Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation qualifying game against Forest Heights on Saturday on the ARHS soccer pitch.
Chrysti Harrison won the game for the Vikettes with about six minutes left in double-overtime.
Also scoring for the Vikettes were Kelli Burbine and Michelle Anderson.
With the win, the Vikettes will travel to the Division 2 girls provincials championships at Cambridge, Kings Co., next weekend.
The wind howled across the field during the Halloween day game.
"The wind played a huge factor," said Vikettes coach Amanda Barlow.
Forest Heights struck first but the Vikettes tied the game 1-1, and then went up 2-1. With regulation time winding down Forest Heights tied the game up 2-2.
"They played well in the first half but really came together in the second half," Barlow said of her troops. "They really earned this win."
How does she think the Vikettes will do at the provincial championships?
"If we come to play, we can hold our own," said Barlow.
At Springhill, the host Golden Eagles girls soccer team's season came to an end after losing 2-1 to Ecole Carrefour on Saturday.
Springhill became regional Division 3 champions for the first time this year and was hoping to qualify for the provincials.
Scoring the lone goal for the Golden Eagles in the dying seconds of the game was Shauna Ryan.
"We had a great season," said Eagles coach Kerry Curtis.
