SACKVILLE, N.B. - The Mount Allison Mounties soccer teams are still in the hunt for playoff berths heading into the final weekend of the Atlantic University Sport season.
The women split a pair of contests on the weekend, losing 1-0 to the P.E.I. Panthers on Friday and beating the Acadia Axewomen 4-2 on Sunday, leaving them with a 3-6-2 record, three points out of a postseason spot.
The men dropped a 5-1 decision against P.E.I., and fought to a 1-1 draw with Acadia to sit at 2-6-3, and are also three points shy of a playoff berth.
Megan Spicer poured in three second-half goals against Acadia, and Sara Laking added a single. The Mounties held a 1-0 halftime advantage. Tessa Roche's goal in the 65th minute stood as the winner for P.E.I.
Junichi Fujimoto had the goal for the men against the Panthers, who led 4-0 at halftime. Chris Vizena scored late in the first half to lift his team level with the Axemen.
Both Mounties clubs are home to the Moncton Aigles Bleus on Saturday, the women playing at 1 p.m., and the men at 3:15 p.m. Mount Allison finishes its regular season in Halifax against the Dalhousie Tigers on Sunday.
Saturday will mark the final home games for graduating seniors Lauren Ledwell, Nicole McMillan and Joanna Mader from the women's team, and Curtis Michaels, Iain MacLeod, Trevey Davis and Matt Murray on the men's side.
