AMHERST - It was a sweep for teams from E.B. Chandler Junior High as the Cheetahs took the junior boys and girls district championships Wednesday.
At the ARHS soccer pitch, Mikey MacDonald scored with time winding down in the extra period as the Cheetahs nipped the Parrsboro Warriors 2-1.
With the win, E.B. Chandler advances to the Northumberland Region championships next week.
MacDonald found a loose ball to the left of the Parrsboro keeper just inside the box and made no mistake drilling a shot over a diving keeper and into the top of the net for the win.
The Amherst squad opened the scoring midway through the second half when Adrian VanVulpen scored his first goal off a cross while Colton Smith later tied it for Parrsboro when he converted on a rebound off a direct kick following a hand-ball just outside the 18-yard box.
E.B. Chandler opened the tourney with a 3-0 win over River Hebert with Josh Pugsley scoring all three goals while Parrsboro defeated Oxford 4-0 with Nic Warren scoring three times and Zac Perrin adding a single goal.
In girls play, Kailey Kane picked up the shutout and Megan Proctor scored three times as E.B. Chandler defeated Parrsboro 5-0.
Maitland Terrio and Lauren Chitty also scored for Chandler, that advances to the regional tournament in Pictou County next week.
Proctor had both goals earlier in the day as the Amherst school nipped Oxford 2-1.
Parrsboro advanced to the final with a 4-0 win over Pugwash.
Scorers from that game were unavailable.
