SACKVILLE, N.B. - The Mount Allison Mounties soccer teams couldn't find the net in Atlantic University Sport action on the weekend.
The women's team managed a pair of 0-0 ties against the Cape Breton Capers and Moncton Aigles Bleues, while the men were blanked twice, 6-0 by Cape Breton and 3-0 by Moncton.
Elissa McCarron recorded both shutouts for the women's Mounties. Cape Breton's women's team is ranked eighth nationally.
The ties keep the Mount Allison women in the race for an AUS playoff berth. The Mounties record sits at 2-5-2 for eight points, tied with Moncton for sixth. Both teams have four games remaining. The Memorial Sea-Hawks will host the AUS championship in St. John's, N.L., from Nov. 6-8 and receive automatic entry into the six-team tournament. Memorial is tied for last in the 10-team AUS, so only the top five finishers in the regular season would qualify for playoffs should Memorial finish out of the top six. Mount Allison is six points back of fifth-place Saint Mary's.
The Mount Allison men are also at 2-5-2 on the season, and sit a point behind sixth-place Saint Mary's with four games left to Saint Mary's three. Dalhousie will host the AUS championship Nov. 6-8 in Halifax and will likely be a top-six team.
Both Mounties teams visit the P.E.I. Panthers on Friday, and are home to Acadia on Sunday. The women play at 1 p.m., followed by the men at 3:15 p.m.
