AMHERST - Last week, the Carter's Sports Cresting under-14 girls soccer team won the Highland League championship after trouncing Pictou County 9-0 at the Winston Street soccer field.
Scoring two goals each for Carter's were Paige Lewis, Victoria McCrindle, Meaghan Proctor and Jenny Sperry, with a single goal going to Lauren Chitty.
Kailey Kane got the shutout in goal.
The win means the girls will compete in the provincial championships this weekend in Lunenburg.
"The girls had a really dominating performance," said coach John Rossong.
"Our co-coach, Maura Carter, is going back to university so we played hard for her. The win was in honour of her. She's been a big addition to the team and a very positive influence on the girls."
Rossong said the girls have been fun to coach.
"They are a great bunch of girls," said Rossong. "They bought into the philosophy that effort turns into good outcome and each girl played excellent all year round. And when it comes to being a team, these are probably the best bunch of girls I've coached in the last four years,"
