Warning issued about car insurance phone scam

FREDERICTON - A new phone scam is making the rounds across New Brunswick.
The provincial chapter of the Insurance Brokers Association says con artists have been calling people to tell them their auto insurance has expired.
The scammers then request a credit card number so a payment can be made.
Association president Steven White says insurance agencies from across New Brunswick have received reports about this scam.
He says this type of call is never done from call centres.

    Man, that's kind of scary. I actually just got a call from calgary insurance saying that they wanted to renew my policy! Thankfully I missed the call and called them back and went through the prompts, so I felt better about paying over the phone.
