AMHERST - Hard work paid off last night for the ARHS Vikette's soccer team as they earned a birth in the Regional final by beating Hants East by a score of 2-1.
"The girls really came together," Vikette coach Kerry Curtis said after the game. "The offense scored on the opportunities they had and the defense played very strong."
Another motivating factor was to go out hard for the teams veterans.
"Our motivation was to make sure the senior girls get to play another game and we did it," Curtis added.
The Vikette seniors she is talking about are netminder Meredith Smith, defender Sam Landry and Mid-fielders Justine Landry, Christa White and Katherine Keagan.
Scoring goals for the Vikettes in last night's game were Tina Leggett and Rachel MacDonald, while Shelby Burns had the single marker for Hants East.
"All three times we played this team the score was 2-1," Curtis said. "So we are very evenly matched teams."
The win means the Vikettes now travel to Brookfield to take on South Colchester in the Regional Championship.
"We won against South Colchester 4-3 and we tied 2-2, so those were two really close games," Curtis added.
The game is Friday, Oct. 17, and it begins at 1:30 p.m.
If they win that game they will go on to the provincials, which will be held on the Oct. 31, weekend in Cape Breton.
