Cool Blues clinch series
TRENTON?- The Cumberland County Cool Blues put ice on the Pictou County Scotians' dreams of a possible upset after defeating them b5-2 in Trenton last night and taking the best of seven NSJHL?series 4 games to 2.
Earlier in the divisional semifinal the Blues threw a scare into their fans by losing two games in a row to the Scotians, but more than made up for it by winning the next two games.
"I can't say how proud of the boys I am right now," assistant coach Dave Hyatt said. "The boys battled a lot of adversity in this series and they held strong and got better as the series went on."
Scoring the goals for the Blues last night was Ryan Smith, Julien Rousselle, Matt Carroll and Ryan Kay with two goals, one of which was an empty netter at the end of the game.
Mark Rozak had two assists while single assists came from Hughie McCuish, Nathan Lavigne and Cody Firth.
Matt Kimber had 29 saves on the night, with shots on goal 37-31 in favour of the Blues. The Blues will now go on to play against the Antigonish Bulldogs in the Sid Rowe Division final.
"Antigonish has a hard-working team," Hyatt said. "They don't have the one superstar player you look to shut down, they have four lines that work hard and their goaltender played very good in their series against the Pirates."
During their regular season series against the Bulldogs, the Blues came out 3 wins, two losses and one overtime loss.
Game time has not been set for the series but it will begin either Wednesday or Friday night at the Richard Calder Arena, Hyatt said after last nights game.
The winner of that series will go on to play the winner of the Fred Fox Division final, where it's the East Hants Penguins against the Windsor Royals. Their series began last night in Lantz with the Royals drawing first blood with 5-2 a win over the Penguins.
