PUGWASH - The only thing better than winning one provincial high school soccer championship, is winning a second one.

The Pugwash District High Lady Panthers will have the chance to do just that starting today in Lunenburg at the NSSAF Division 4 girls championship tourney. Pugwash opens at 2:15 p.m. against host Lunenburg while Inverness, the team the Panthers defeated last year to win their first ever title, plays Pictou Academy at noon.

We open against Lunenburg, which will be a big test for our team. They won their regional, as did we, and were expecting a very intense game, Lady Panthers coach Jeff Lewis said. Theyll be very excited and full of energy to play for a provincial title on their home field.

Last year, in Oxford, Pugwash defeated Inverness 2-1 following an 11-player shootout. The Ravens have only lost two players from last years silver medallists and should be very competitive again this year.

Pugwash lost six players from last years championship squad, but Lewis said there is still a solid nucleus going to the provincial tourney.

There are some great natural leaders on this team who really have their sights set on capturing another provincial banner. They know what it feels like and what it takes to win, Lewis said, adding his team will be approaching the challenge one game at a time.

The schools boys team is also in provincials this weekend at Armbrae Academy, opening against the host team at 3 p.m.

Oxford, which qualified last weekend, plays in the tournaments first game against Pictou Academy.
