Mankota’s Shawn Williamson one-upped himself on day two of the CCA Finals in Regina Wednesday.
After posting the fastest Tie Down Roping time on day one in 9.6 seconds, Williamson registered a blistering 7.9-second time on day two to widen his lead in the five-day competition. Williamson, a three-time Tie Down Roping Finals Champion, earned a second $1,000 payday and now has 80 Championship Points, 35 ahead of his nearest competitor.
Four-time defending Finals champion Dannielle Knudsen was second in Ladies Barrel Racing on day two in 14.01 seconds. The Stewart Valley product sits second with 50 Championship points, just five points back of Robbi Nace. Stewart Valley’s Janet-Lynn Moen is tied for fifth after placing fourth on day two in 14.22 seconds.
Maple Creek’s Ross Kruetzer is now tied for second in Saddle Bronc with 40 Championship Points. He placed second for a second straight day with a score of 74.75 on Wednesday.
Piapot’s Brady Bertram is now tied for third in Bareback with 30 Championship Points. He was third on day two with a 79.25-point ride for $500.
The six-competitor Junior Steer Wrestling field is being dominated by three Southwest cowboys. Maple Creek’s Brady Resch and Nolan Jans are both tied for top spot with 40 points, while Hazenmore’s Chanse Cutler is third with 30 points. Resch scored a 68.5 on Wednesday for 40 points after he was the only cowboy with a qualified ride.
Maple Creek’s Mardi Yarshenko is second in Junior Girls Barrel Racing, 20 points back of Wood Mountain’s Nicole Pana. Yarshenko was second for a second straight day in 14.38 seconds.
The CCA Finals will continue Thursday at Canadian Western Agribition and will conclude Saturday.
