AMHERST – The ARHS Viking basketball team hosting the Carters Cresting Vikings Tip Off Tournament on the weekend.

The games started Friday with the Vikings playing their first game of the weekend that night against the Charlottetown Rural Raiders, suffering a 64-52 loss. The leading scorer for the Vikings was Adrian Van Vulpen taking in 18 points.

The team had their first game Saturday morning against Breton Education Centre Bears. The Vikings came out on top with a 71-63 win. Jason Morse brought in 17 points and Caleb Hayes brought in 14.

The final Viking game of the weekend was against the Pugwash Panthers. The Vikings won the game, 91-75, with Caleb Hayes bringing in 24 points, including six 3-pointers.

Vikings coach Matt Gamblin was impressed with the success of the team.

“The kids played hard this weekend,” he said. “We made some strides as a team and we got some great contributions from our bench. We need to continue to progress on the defensive end and limit turnovers on the offense.”
