Southwest will be well represented at CCA Finals Rodeo

Two dozen area competitors have their places booked in the Canadian Cowboys' Association Final Rodeo in Regina on Nov. 20 to 24.

Mankota's Shaun Williamson finds himself the top ranked competitor in the Tie Down Roping event by topping the regular season money won list at $9,760. Williamson placed just $194 better than runner-up Scott Sigfusson of Davidson. Sigfusson placed as the CCA's Canadian High Point Award winner in 2012 with $19,646 won at the pay window. Williamson was third in the Canadian High Point Award race with $12,657 in winnings.

Four time defending CCA Finals barrel racing champion Dannielle Knudsen from Stewart Valley will be defending her title as the second place finishers in the regular season standings with $11,172 in winnings. Knudsen has topped the Finals field since 2008, but finds herself as the regular season runner up behind Christine Ross from Botha AB who won $12,992 this season.

Three other Southwest entries will also be aiming for fast times in the Ladies Barrel Racing event, with 2005 CCA Finals Champion 2011 Finals runner-up Janet-Lynn Moen, Stewart Valley entering this year's Finals ranked fourth after winning $10,363. Kerry Maynes from Maple Creek is ranked seventh after earning $7,986 this past year. Swift Current's Jane Corey won $5,659 this season, earning the 11th and final spot in the Finals by a $69 margin over the 12th place finisher.

Swift Current's Blaine Switzer is back at the Finals after placing fourth in the tie down roping regular season with $5,632 in winnings. Switzer is trying to recapture the form which won him the 1999 Tie Down Finals title.

Jesse Popescul from Glentworth was on the bubble in early August sitting in 11th spot with $2,784 in winnings. At the end of the year he lept to fifth place and $5,813 in tie down roping. He had a strong season, placing fourth in the Canadian High Point Award standings at $11,936.

Area tie down roper Tyler Getz just missed qualifying for the Finals, with Tyler Getz from Lucky Lake earning $4,922 on the year, but finishing $142 out of a qualifying spot.

In saddle bronc action Maple Creek's Ross Kreutzer had been ranked 14th in early August, but vaulted all the way to sixth with an impressive end of the season. He will be joined at the finals by fellow Maple Creek competitor Shelton Udal who is ranked seventh after a $5,743 year.

The defending 2011 Finals Team Roping Championship duo of Scott McLeod and Tuftin McLeod are aiming for back-to-back Finals titles after a strong 2012 regular season. Scott McLeod was the CCA's top heeler with $8,638 in winnings, while Tuftin McLeod took second among headers by winning $8,638.

The 11th spot at the CCA Finals will be reserved for the Ontario season leader.
