SWAC Track and Field representatives finalized

The South West Athletic Conference held its District Track and Field Meet Wednesday in Swift Current where athletes from across the Southwest competed for the opportunity to represent SWAC at Provincials.

Shaunavon was the only team that was able to wrestle one of the team titles away from the Swift Current Comp. when the Shadows won the Junior Boys team title. Gull Lake won the Bantam Boys and Bantam Girls team titles. The Swift Current Comp. cleaned up the rest of the team titles in the Midget Girls, Junior Girls, Senior Girls, Midget Boys, and Senior Boys divisions.

Swift Current’s Emilie Erlandson was the only athlete to compile the maximum 40 points to win the Senior Girls aggregate title. She won the 100 metre dash in 14.25 seconds, easily topped triple jump with a 10.20 metre effort, and topped the long jump by sailing 4.74 metres. Erlandson made it a perfect day when she won shot put with a 10.20 metre heave for her fourth first place finish.

Vanguard’s Elias Carter won the Senior Boys aggregate title with 26 points. Carter did his damage in the distance events as he won the 1,500 metre race in 5:11.09 and the 3,000 metres in 10:50.03. He added a third place finish in long jump, clearing 1.70 metres to help clinch the aggregate title.

The Junior Girls aggregate title was won by Fox Valley’s Tessa Fauth with 32 points. Fauth won the 200 metre dash in 30.69 seconds. She also placed second in triple jump with an 8.55 metre jump and second in the 100 metre dash in 15.12 seconds. She picked up points in a fourth event when she placed third in long jump with a 4.29 metre effort.  

Shaunavon’s Adam Peterson won the Junior Boys aggregate title with 38 points. He won the 100 metre hurdles in 17.45 seconds, the high jump when he cleared 1.65 metres, and the 800 metre race in 2:28.29. He also placed second in shot put with a 9.89 metre toss.

Swift Current’s Brooklyn Haubrich was the Midget Girls aggregate winner with 30 points. She won three straight races with wins in the 100 metre dash (14.28 seconds), the 200 metre dash (29.56), and the 400 metre race (1:07.66).

Swift Current’s Marcus Kouri won the Midget Boys aggregate title with 38 points overall. Kouri topped triple jump with an 11.01 metre showing, the 100 metre hurdles in 16.22 seconds, and the 200 metre dash in 25.90 seconds. He also placed second in long jump with a 5.04 metre leap.

Abbey’s Kyra Braaten was the top Bantam Girls competitor with 38 points. Braaten won the long jump with a 4.03 metre leap, the 800 metre race in 2:47.81, and the 100 metre dash in 14.85 seconds. She also placed second in the 400 metre race in 1:11.21.

Eastend’s Lane Richardson topped the Bantam Boys individual rankings with 24 points to win the aggregate title. He won the 100 metre dash in 13.15 seconds. Richardson also placed second in triple jump with a 10.34 metre effort and was third in long jump with a 4.66 metre leap.

The top two male and female finishers in the Midget, Junior, and Senior divisions in each event will represent the Southwest at SHSAA Provincials at Griffith’s Stadium in Saskatoon on June 1-2.
