Four Southwest cowboys were able to bring home money from the first Canadian Cowboy’s Association rodeo of the 2012 season in Tisdale.
The defending CCA Finals Champions, Scott and Tuftin McLeod, were the top Southwest performers at the Tisdale Rambler Rodeo on March 30-31. The father-son duo from Waldeck placed second in Team Roping in 6.5 seconds to haul in $1,077. They were less than a second behind Vanscoy’s Dustin Walker and Clark Kovar, who finished in 5.9 seconds for $1,301.
Tuftin McLeod also placed fifth in Tie Down Roping in 11.4 seconds for $158. Indian Head’s Bruce Dunham won the event in 8.5 seconds, a full 1.5 seconds ahead of his nearest competition.
Beechy’s Tom Willoughby was also a double money winner for the Southwest. He placed third in Bull Riding with a score of 77 on ‘Wild Fire’ for $326. Grenfell’s Kory Ginnis led all bull riders with an 80-point ride on ‘Shy Guy’ for $605.
Willoughby also placed third in Steer Wrestling in 9.8 seconds for $437. Qu’Apelle’ s Wyatt Klovansky won the competition in 6.1 seconds for $592.
Maple Creek’s Kerry Maynes was the lone Southwest rider to win money in Ladies Barrel Racing. She tied for fourth in 13.94 seconds for $496. Rebecca Beebe, riding out of Islay, AB, won the event in 13.81 seconds to take home $914.
Next up on the CCA calendar is the Big Valley Rodeo in Big Valley, AB on April 13-14. The first CCA event in the Southwest this season will be the Dean Anthony Memorial Rodeo on May 25-26 in Mankota.
