Oxford hosts boys' tourney

SPRINGHILL – It’s a basketball weekend in Cumberland County.

The Division 4 Boys’ Provincial Championships are taking place at Oxford Regional Education Centre, beginning yesterday and running through tomorrow. And the Division 3 Girls’ Provincials run the same days at Springhill Jr/Sr High School.

Competing for the girls’ title are New Germany, Springhill, Cape Breton Highlands, Liverpool, Musquodoboit, King’s Edgehill, Dalbrae and Shelburne. The boys’ teams include Sommet, Fountain Academy, Lockeport, North Queens Rural, Oxford and Pugwash.

Result from Springhill’s first three games Thursday: victory for Musquodoboit over Liverpool, 50-39; Cape Breton over King’s Edgehill, 68-41; and Springhill over Dalbrae 64-60 (Springhill plays again tonight at 8 p.m.). In Oxford, Pugwash took Sommet 82-49, and North Queens beat Cape Breton Highlands 80-59; Pugwash plays tonight at 8 p.m.
