The Swift Current Junior SunDogs 15U volleyball team placed 17th out of 27 teams at the first Saskatchewan Volleyball Association Sask Cup tournament in Moose Jaw.
The SunDogs, coached by Tyler Byers, finished with a 2-2 record on Saturday after wins over the Muenster Cougars (25-17, 25-18) and QCVC Fusion (25-5, 25-10) and losses to the Watrous Extreme and the Waldheim Raiders.
The SunDogs failed to get on track Sunday with three-set losses to the Muenster Cougars (22-25, 25-10, 15-17) and the RVC Cyclones (20-25, 25-14, 13-15).
Katie Darlington-Kuebler and Kelsey Therrien led the team in kills, while Regan Lamb and McKayla Anderson led the team in serving.
“All in all it was a great weekend of volleyball,” said Byers. “Not quite the results we were hoping for, however the girls and I learned a lot over the weekend and we will only get better from here. There were a lot of positive highlights on the weekend. We have great talent, just a few more things to touch up on and we will be an unreal team in the near future!”
The SunDogs next tournament action will be March 10-11 in Saskatoon.
