16 Southwest cowboys are in Regina for the Canadian Cowboy's Association Finals Rodeo with some strong early performances on the board already.
Stewart Valley’s Dannielle Dinius has continued right where she left off in the regular season when she easily topped the Ladies Barrel Racing season standings with over $17,000 in earnings.
Dinius led all 11 riders on Tuesday evening in 14.26 seconds and followed up with another first-place ride on Wednesday when she finished in 13.98 seconds, the only time under 14 seconds in 22 attempts by the 11 riders. Dinius leads all contestants with 80 champion points heading into day three of the Finals.
Stewart Valley’s Janet-Lynn Moen sits in second place in Ladies Barrel Racing with 40 champion points after third place runs on Tuesday (14.49 seconds) and Wednesday (14.24 seconds).
Mankota’s Shawn Williamson is also among the top Southwest competitors as he is tied for top spot in Tie Down Roping with 40 champion points. Williamson placed first on Tuesday in 8.2 seconds before failing to register a time on Wednesday.
The father-son duo of Scott and Tuftin McLeod are second in Team Roping after two days. They were second on Tuesday in 11.4 seconds and third on day two in 5.4 seconds.
Maple Creek’s Ross Kreutzer also got off to a strong start in Saddle Bronc. He tied for second on Tuesday with a 75.75 score and was third on Wednesday with a score of 76.5.
The CCA Finals will continue with evening performances on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
