Our senior boys’ volleyball teams were involved in regional playoffs on Saturday.
In 1A action, Vanguard and Fox Valley travelled to College Mathieu. The Fox Valley Legends captured the regional title with a perfect record. They finished first in their pool at 2-0 with wins over Vanguard (25-11, 25-15) and Elrose (25-12, 25-10).
Vanguard finished second in that pool at 1-1. They beat Elrose (21-25, 25-11, 25-8). In the semi’s, Fox Valley defeated Beechy (25-12, 25-13) while Vanguard defeated Kincaid/College Mathieu in an extremely hard fought battle (19-25, 31-29, 26-24).
The final saw two Chinook teams battling it out with Fox Valley beating Vanguard 25-15 and 25-10. Both teams will now advance to provincials in Broadview on Nov. 25-26.
2A boys’ regionals were held in Cabri with three Chinook teams taking part – Leader, Cabri and Ponteix. Cabri finished first in their pool with victories over Davidson (25-12, 25-6) and LCBI (25-4, 25-7). Leader was first in their pool with wins over Ponteix (25-16, 25-23) and Central Butte (25-18, 25-21). Ponteix finished second with a win over Central Butte (25-21, 25-9).
In semi final action, it was Cabri over Ponteix (25-7, 25-17) while Leader defeated Davidson (25-9, 25-7). The all Chinook final saw Leader defeat Cabri in an excellent final 25-21, 27-29, 25-8. Both Leader and Cabri will now travel to 2A provincials in Muenster on Nov. 25-26.
In 4A action, Shaunavon was host to the regional tournament. The hometown Shadows finished second in their pool with a win over Dalmeny (25-20, 25-18) and a loss to Lanigan (25-18, 25-20). The Shadows then lost in the semi to Moose Jaw Cornerstone (25-22, 25-27). The boys had one last chance in the consolation final and pulled out a victory over Lanigan (25-12, 8-25, 25-20). The boys will now travel to Wilkie for provincials this weekend.
