Oxford nips rival Pugwash in tournament finale

PUGWASH - Dylan Ellis scored 27 points and Mackenzie Stewart added 15 as the Oxford Golden Bears defeated Pugwash 72-69 to win a high school tournament in Pugwash over the weekend.

"We knew this would be a tough game for us," Panthers co-coach Angela Stewart said during Saturday's game against the Golden Bears, adding that the game was close and could have gone either way.

Josh Dorn with 13, Milton King with nine and Dean Dormiedy with six also scored.

Nick Stevens scored 15 and Kris Allen had 13 for Pugwash while Alex Parker added 12. Alex Tuttle and Josh Borgal each had eight points and Jeff Blaikie scored seven for Pugwash.

The eventual champions opened the tourney with a convincing 83-69 win over Cabot High with Dylan Ellis scoring 20 for Oxford and Mackenzie Stewart and Josh Dorn each adding 17. Milton King had 11.

Taylor Hardy-Scott had 27 for Cabot High.

Dean Dormiedy had 22 points and Patrick Redmond 21 as Oxford defeated Hants east 70-51. Casey Visser scored 15 points and Matt Graves added 14 for Oxford.

Brandon Huybers had 27 for Hants East.

The host Pugwash District High Panthers opened with a 58-55 squeaker over Hants East.

Alex Parker scored 20 points to lead the way for Pugwash with Blaine Reid scoring 10 and Bruce Eddy and Nick Stevens each scoring eight.

Brandon Huybers scored 29 for Hants East.

Pugwash also defeated Cabot High 77-71 with Alex Parker scoring 29 and Hayden Tilt 14. Nick Stevens added 11 while Taylor Scott had 27 for Cabot High.

In the tournament's other game, Brandon Huybers scored 34 points as Hants East defeated Cabot 73-61.

Taylor Scott had 21 for Cabot High.
