OXFORD – Milton King, Golden Bears senior boys basketball player, reached his 1,000 point mark during Oxford Regional High School’s (ORHS) invitational round-robin tournament last weekend in Oxford.

“It’s an accomplishment in itself reaching 1,000 points in the three-year period playing with the team from Grade 10 through to Grade 12. Reaching the 1,000 point mark this early in the year reflects the dedication and commitment Milton has shown the team. That would mean Milton scored roughly 500 points the two previous years,” Doug Hart, ORHS athletic director said.

“For me it was a great achievement, I always wanted to join the 1,000-point club, and now I’m one of them,” King said.

King becomes the third player in the last four years to make the 1,000-point mark. Brian Margeson and Brandon Patriquin were the last two Golden Bear players to reach that goal.

“It’s a huge milestone in high school basketball,” King said, adding that this accomplishment is definitely something he will look back and cherish the accomplishment.

King reached scored his 1,000th point during the game against Pugwash, which Oxford won by a score of 77-61. King was MVP for that game.

Results of the rest of the round-robin games are as follows; Oxford against Hants North with Hants North winning with a score of 96-75, MVP Dean Dormiedy; Oxford against Bridgewater with Bridgewater taking the game with an 80-73 score, MVP Mackenzie Stewart; Pugwash versus Bridgewater by a score of 66-53 for Pugwash; Hants North against Pugwash with Hants North winning by a score of 69-38 and Hants North against Bridgewater with Hants North winning by a score of 75-71.

In addition to the poster, cake and other celebrations during last weekend’s tournament, King will be awarded a plaque during the school’s sports banquet held in the first-week in June.
