VANCOUVER - Roberto Luongo will start in goal for the Canadian men's Olympic hockey team in a do-or-die game against Germany.
The Vancouver Canucks goaltender confirmed after practice Monday he will start in the elimination round game.
He will step into the starting role after Martin Brodeur had a rough outing in a 5-3 loss to the United States on Sunday.
"It's going to be fun to play in front of the fans here again," the Montreal native said. "I'll do my best."
Luongo. a star with the NHL's Vancouver Canucks, shut out Norway in Canada's first game last week before his hometown fans.
He then played back-up to Brodeur in a 3-2 shootout win against Switzerland and then in the loss to the U.S. team.
Team Canada must defeat the Germans on Tuesday to advance to a quarter-final meeting with Russia on Wednesday.
The semi-finals are Friday and the gold medal game on Sunday, before the Games' closing ceremonies.
