AMHERST - Despite playing shorthanded throughout the weekend the Amherst Regional High School Junior Varsity Vikettes made it all the way to the final at the Hants East Sweetheart Basketball Tournament before losing 64-50 to West Kings.
The club was the only junior varsity squad playing in a senior tournament.
Emily Pipes led the way for Amherst with 22 points while Paige Lewis scored 19. Rachel MacDonald with four, Rachel Gamblin with three and Angel Downey with two also scored for the Vikettes.
Amherst opened with a 65-45 win over Hants North Rural High with Angel Downey leading the way with a 22-point performance.
Emily Pipes with 18, Paige Lewis with 13 and Rachel MacDonald, Ashton Hunter and Rachel Gamblin with four each also scored.
In their other game, Emily Pipes had 16 points as the Vikettes defeated Hants East Rural High 44-41.
Paige Lewis with 11, Rachel Gamblin with eight, Ashton Hunter with four, Angel Downey and Rachel MacDonald with two and Chelsey Gray with one also scored. The JV Vikettes move into qualifying action this week against Glace Bay.
