FREDERICTON - Investigators are trying to determine what caused the death of a man whose body was recovered Sunday from a section of the ice-covered St. John River near downtown Fredericton.
The unidentified body was spotted by a snowmobiler crossing the ice beneath the Westmorland Street Bridge.
Police spokesman Sgt. Matt Myers says the fire department's ice rescue team was called in to bring the body to shore on an ice sled.
Myers says there were safety concerns because river levels can fluctuate because of the Mactaquac dam upstream.
