RAMA, Ont. - Canadian Steve (The Canadian Kid) Molitor is getting a chance to regain the IBF junior featherweight boxing title March 27 at Rumble at Rama XI.
Molitor (31-1, 12 KOs) will go to the ring against South African Takalani Ndlovu (30-5, 18 KOs) for the vacant title.
Ndlovu is ranked No. 1 by the IBF while Molitor, of Sarnia, Ont., is No. 2.
Molitor held the junior featherweight belt between 2006 and 2008 but lost it to Celestino Caballero in November 2008
Molitor and Ndlovu have faced off before. In July 2007, Molitor defended his title against Ndlovu and stopped him in the ninth round.
It was one of five successful title defences before Molitor lost his title.
"All I've been thinking about is becoming a two-time champion, and nobody is going to get in my way," Molitor said in a statement. "I'm here to not only regain my title, but to show the world I'm even better now than I was during my first title reign.
"That means laying an even more convincing beating on Ndlovu this time around."
But Ndlovu too is confident, even after being beat soundly by Molitor in 2007.
"I have earned my mandatory spot in the IBF rankings, and the fact that I'm now No. 1 and Steve No. 2 speaks volumes," Ndlovu said. "This time around it will be far different from the last time I fought Steve.
"I'm not overconfident, but the fact that I have agreed to go back to Canada, shows my mindset for this fight. This is most likely my last chance to win the IBF world title and I'm prepared to do what ever it takes to beat Steve."
Also on the Rumble at Rama XI card is Canadian heavyweight champion Greg (The Steel Pole) Kielsa (11-0, 5 KOs) of Brampton, Ont., defending his title against Toronto's Neven Pajkic (11-0, 5 KOs).
Ana (The Hurricane) Julaton of the Philippines, will face Toronto's Lisa (Bad News) Brown for the vacant WBA super bantamweight championship.
