SHUBENACADIE, N.S. - Groundhog Day has produced a big chill.
Nova Scotia's furry forecaster, Shubenacadie Sam, got a glimpse of his shadow Tuesday, heralding six more weeks of winter.
Sam's spokeswoman at the Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park, Sue Penney, said he didn't waste any time with his annual activity.
"When Sam came out he was so disappointed that he knew he was going to see his shadow that he basically hid right away," said Penney.
"And that means that we are going to have a long winter."
Sam and an American cousin, Pennsylvania's Punxsutawney Phil, were on the same page Tuesday.
Phil also saw his shadow.
Other prognosticators include Ontario's Wiarton Willie and Alberta's Balzac Billy.
The origins of the tradition aren't clear, but it's likely related to the fact that Groundhog Day falls midway between the start of winter and the beginning of spring.

do you people realized that if its is cloudy out the groundhog wont see his shadow or if its sunny then the groundhog will see its shadow... come on people, just look at the weather, what kind of day it is...simple
