VanSnick places 19th in first Florida Winter Tour feature

ORLANDO, Fla. - Amherst's Alex VanSnick had a respectable showing in his first weekend of racing in the junior rotax division of the Florida Winter Tour in Orlando, Florida.
On Saturday, VanSnick fought his way from a 12th-place start in the last-chance qualifier to a seventh-place finish. Unfortunately, only six drivers qualified for the feature event that included 34 drivers from around the world.
On Sunday, after a crash in qualifying, hopes of making the feature were diminished as VanSnick started 20th in the last-chance qualifier. Using his solid driving skills and a fast kart, he was able to move to sixth and earn a spot in the feature race.
In the feature, VanSnick started last out of 34 karts and moved up to 25th within two laps. He was able to move up to 19th spot before the race ended.
Most of the top 20 drivers are 15 years old and race all year. This was the first race for VanSnick, 13, in the junior rotax division.
