The UFC hopes to stick with its May 1 date for UFC 113 in Montreal but will likely change it if there is a clash with a marquee boxing pay-per-view.
"It would be stupid to go the same night," UFC president Dana White told The Canadian Press on Tuesday.
The concern is over rumblings that Floyd Mayweather may meet Shane Mosley the same day in Las Vegas.
UFC officials met late into the night Monday in Las Vegas to examine their options. One is to move the Bell Centre show to May 8 if the boxing card goes May 1.
White's frustration is at having possibly to give up a date the UFC has been planning since December, especially when the Mayweather fight remains up in the air.
"They don't even know if they're going to go May 1," he said of boxing promoters.
The Montreal main event features light-heavyweight champion Lyoto (The Dragon) Machida in a rematch with fellow Brazilian Mauricio (Shogun) Rua.
The co-main event has welterweight Josh Koscheck facing off with England's Paul (Semtex) Daley. Canadians touted on the card include Jonathan (The Road Warrior) Goulet, Patrick (The Predator) Cote, T.J. Grant and Sam (Hands of Stone) Stout.
