SACKVILLE, N.B. - Quispamsis, N.B., resident Josh Graham has won Mount Allison Mounties athlete of the week honours for his outstanding play on the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association hardcourt against the King's Blue Devils and the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics.
Graham scored 15 points, grabbed four rebounds, shot six-for-seven from the foul line, and added two steals against the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, against the unbeaten Mystics, he poured in 27 points and was five-for-five from the stripe.
Combined with a great defensive effort, it was one of Graham's best weekends this year. The Mounties dropped the Blue Devils by a 73-54 score, and lost a 66-63 squeaker to the Mystics.
A two-time MVP with the Kennebecasis Valley High School basketball program, Graham was rookie of the year for the basketball Mounties in 2006-07. The six-foot guard is a fourth-year commerce student.
Other Mount Allison results from weekend action saw the women's basketball team split a pair of contests, beating King's 62-60 before falling 84-28 to Mount Saint Vincent; the women's volleyball squad winning a five-set thriller over Mount Saint Vincent, 22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-17 and 15-10; the badminton team placing second at a four-team tournament in Halifax; and the women's hockey team dropping an 8-4 decision to the Moncton Aigles Bleues.
Mounties squads return to action this weekend. The volleyballers have a home-and-home against NSAC, the basketball teams visit St. Thomas and host Holland College, the hockey club heads to P.E.I., and hosts Saint Mary's, and the swim team heads to Acadia for a two-day meet.
