Chandler girls win Island event

O'LEARY, P.E.I. - Lauren MacEachern netted 19 points as the E.B. Chandler Junior High Cheetahs defeated Hernwood 43-40 to win the championship at a junior girls basketball tournament on Saturday.
Ashley MacEachern scored nine points, Jessica Wilson had six, Maitland Terrio five and Megan Rushton and Kennedy Black each had two for the Cheetahs with Terrio earning player of the game honours and Lauren MacEachern earning a berth on the tournament all-star team.
Chandler opened with a 32-25 win over M.E. Callaghan of Tidnish, P.E.I., with Lauren MacEachern scoring nine points to lead the way. Game MVP Ashley MacEachern, Kennedy Black and Maitland Terrio each scored six points while Jessica Wilson added four and Maegan Morrison scored two.
In their second game, Chandler defeated Birchwood 24-22 with Lauren MacEachern scoring 11 points and game MVP Kennedy Black adding six. Maegan Morrison, Maitland Terrio and Emily Dunne each scored two and Jessica Wilson added one.
In their other round-robin game, game MVP Lauren MacEachern scored 15 points and Ashley MacEachern chipped in 10 as E.B. Chandler defeated Kensington 38-27.
Kennedy Black scored six, Maegan Morrison had four, Maitland Terrio had two and Jessica Wilson scored one for E.B. Chandler.
E.B. Chandler returns to action on Thursday when the Cheetahs host Pugwash at the E.B. Chandler gymnasium at 5:30 p.m.
The club is in a tournament this weekend in Oxford and next weekend at ARHS.
