JV Vikettes finish third at tourney

Post 2-1 record in six-team event

AMHERST - Paige Lewis scored 22 points and Ashton Hunter added six as the Amherst Regional High School JV Vikettes defeated North Colchester 52-50 to capture third place at their junior varsity basketball tournament Saturday.
Rachel MacDonald and Emily Pipes each had five points and Chelsey Gray, Angel Downey and Rachel Gamblin each had four points for the Vikettes. Amelia Fuentes scored two.
Memorial High from Sydney Mines defeated Horton 70-44 to capture the championship.
Amherst opened the tourney on Friday with a 59-38 win over Avon View with Paige Lewis leading the way with 17 points and Rachel Gamblin scoring 14.
Chelsey Gray with seven and Emily Pipes, Amelia Fuentes, Lauren Murray and Rachel MacDonald with four each also scored. Ashton Hunter added two points and Angel Downey had one.
In their second game, Amherst lost 49-44 to Horton with Paige Lewis scoring 17 points and Emily Pipes adding 13.
Rachel Gamblin with five and Chelsey Gray with two also scored for Amherst.
In other games, Avon View lost to Horton 73-30, North Colchester defeated Tantramar High of Sackville, N.B., 52-25, Memorial defeated Tantramar 85-25, Memorial nipped North Colchester 66-60 in overtime and Avon View lost 49-39 to Tantramar.
