AMHERST - Amherst's Nathan Robertson travels to Montreal on Thursday to participate in the Battle of Montreal, where he will test his strength against powerlifters from across Canada and the U.S.
Robertson has broken Canadian records during training and hopes he can do the same thing during competition.
"I've squatted 750 pounds in training," Robertson said.
"And in the bench press and the deadlift I've done anywhere between 560 and 590 pounds."
Robertson competes in the 220-242 pound category.
"I still have a few pounds to shed to make weight," he said.
Robertson attended the Battle of Montreallast year and said he is lifting much more now than he did at last year's competition.
Last year, Robertson earned second place in his weight category after he bench pressed 501.5 pounds, deadlifted 531.5 pounds and squatted 650 pounds.
At the time, the lifts were personal bests for him.
"I've been sticking with the same training regimen for the last two years and it's really been paying off," Robertson said.
Robertson attends the weigh-in on Friday and then competes on Saturday.
