RIVER PHILIP - Amherst's Hazardous Material response team arrived on scene here on the Wyvern Road after an oil truck overturned, rolled into a ditch and started leaking furnace oil.

No one was injured during the incident, which was just a handful of kilometres from the community of Collingwood.

Collingwood Fire Dept and RCMP were first on the scene as citizens along the rural road community surveyed the scene. Don Blair was one of the first at the scene. It was his home the truck was making the delivery to.

"They were trying to back up and made two runs at it but it [was] just too greasy," Blair said. "They took out my apple tree. Just lucky they didn't hit that pole."

While awaiting for an oil truck from Halifax to arrive and transfer the oil approximately 50 litres of furnace oil was spilled. The NS Department of Environment on scene reported that the oil spill was contained.

Directly across from the overturned vehicle is the River Philip.
