Vikings take third spot at Christmas Classic

AMHERST - Richard Hope scored a game-high 32 points and the Amherst Regional High School Vikings built up a 21-point lead early in the second half en route to a 86-72 win over the Rothesay Red Hawks to win the bronze medal at the ARHS Christmas Classic boys basketball tournament Tuesday.
Ryan Budd scored 22 points for the Vikings, who pulled away from the Red Hawks late in the first half, while Sammy Mohamad added 15 points.
Kevin LePage scored 12 points and Shaddy Mohamad added four for the Vikings.
Tom Lutes had 22 points for Rothesay while Liam Shea scored 18 and Brandon Churchill added 14 and Cameron Mosley 11 for the Red Hawks.
Ben Power, with two, and Nick Rouse and Christopher Schaerer with one apiece, also scored.
In last night's championship game, the Charlottetown Rural Raiders jumped out to an early lead and defeated the Three Oaks Axemen of Summerside 55-43 in an all-P.E.I. matchup.
Tournament most valuable player Aaron Robbins scored 20 points while Andrew Clark added 11 for Charlottetown Rural while Kyle Welton added nine.
Rounding out scoring for the Raiders were: Patrick Davis with five points, Simon Kang scored four and Kyle Gillis, Sean Seviour and Frank Folwell each scored two.
Kendal Steele scored 11 to lead Three Oaks while Will Brawn had 10, Andrew Smith had seven, Scott Dewar and Brett Montgomery and Chris Tompson each had four.
North Nova won the fifth-place game with a 70-54 triumph over Avon View while Hants North finished seventh with a 77-66 victory over the Pugwash District High Panthers.
Members of the all-star team were Amherst's Sammy Mohamad, Will Brawn of Three Oaks, Tom Lutes of Rothesay, Bradley Johnson of North Nova and Sean Seviour of Charlottetown Rural.
Bryson MacDonald of North Nova was named most sportsmanlike player and Dewar was named top defensive player.
