Summerside goes unbeaten to claim junior hoops tourney

Chandler Cheetahs post 1-2 record

AMHERST - The Summerside Intermediate High Owls went unbeaten to win the E.B. Chandler Junior Girls Basketball Tournament here Saturday.
Summerside opened the one-day tournament with a 48-39 win over the host Chandler Cheetahs with Jamie MacLean scoring 16 points and Michaela Walker adding six.
Rebecca Clark, with six, and Hannah Steele, with five, also scored.
Lauren MacEachern led E.B. Chandler with 16 points while Asley MacEachern added eight, Maitland Terrio chipped in with six and Andrea Comeau had three.
The host school went 1-2, rebounding to post a 42-36 win over Bible Hill with Lauren MacEachern scoring 16 points to lead the way. Andrea Comeau and Maitland Terrio each had six points and Maegan Morrison added four. Ashley MacEachern and Emily Dunne each had three points.
Brittany MacKay had 17 points for Bible Hill while Samantha Strickland had nine.
In their other game, E.B. Chandler dropped a 42-32 decision to Oxford.
Lauren MacEachern scored 15 points for E.B. Chandler while Andrea Comeau had seven and Ashley MacEachern had four.
Shannalee Smith had 12 for Oxford while Jenna Rushton and Savannah Davis each had nine, Sidney Johnson had six and Katherine Williams four.
In other action, Bible Hill defeated Oxford 55-41, Summerside knocked off Oxford 46-22 and Summerside upended Bible Hill 53-44.
E.B. Chandler coach Allen MacEachern said the tournament went well and was well attended by spectators.
This was the second round-robin tournament held by E.B. Chandler and the coach said the team is looking forward to playing in their invitational to be held at the end of January or beginning of February.
