Cougars fall in quarter at Westisle tourney

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars were knocked out in the quarter-final of the weekend's 26th Annual Westisle Wolverine Classic in P.E.I. by the three-time Nova Scotia champion Sackville Kingfishers.
The Cougars were downed 16-25, 25-16,
10-15.
The setback capped a roller coaster tournament for the Cougars who finished in third in pool play.
The Cougars opened the tournament with a disappointing loss to West Kings 33-35, 26-24, 15-17 before beating Charlottetown Rural in straight sets 25-10, 25-19.
Cobequid then fell to Summerside's Three Oaks 23-25, 25-11 before coming alive to beat Horton #2 25-20, 25-15.
Grade 12 leftside Will Sandeson led the Cougars with 23 passes, 46 kills, and 11 aces. Grade 10 middle Kristen O'Brien also had a strong weekend with eight blocks while Grade 11 middle Lincoln Watson chipped in five for the Cougars.
Grade 12 setter and team captain Cameron MacKenzie collected 118 assists, 21 defensive digs, and four kills.
The Cougars take their 13-7 match record to the annual West Kings tournament this weekend.
