TRURO - Dana Fraser's four-point effort powered the Truro Bearcats to an 8-1 thrashing of the Miramichi Timberwolves Saturday in their Maritime Junior A Hockey League tilt.
The contest was Truro's first on the road this season, and spoiled the Timberwolves' home opener.
Fraser, a 20-year-old centre, said he was happy to help his team get a win.
"It's good to get the two points first of all," Fraser said. "And it's nice to contribute
offensively."
The win gives Truro a 2-0-0-0 record for four points. Fraser credited the win to a team effort.
"All four lines were going and everyone contributed," he said. "Guys stepped up and fought and scored and all 20 guys were working for the win."
Truro jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 34 seconds in when Jordan Mock scored. Mock added another in the second with other Bearcats goals coming from Fraser (2), Brett Frazee (2), Jamie MacIntyre and Doug Burns.
Kirk Rafuse turned aside 25 shots for the victory. Former Bearcats goaltender Luke Gallant made 31 saves and was replaced by Brent Pierro near the mid-way point of the third period.
