Raceway roars into September

RACEWAY KICKS OFF SEPTEMBER MEET
Thirteen dashes are scheduled for tomorrow at Truro Raceway to kick off the September race meet.
More than 100 horses will hit the track for an entertaining program of harness racing action in event No. 29 of the year.
Post time is slated for 1:30 p.m. with qualifying set for 12:30 p.m.

MILDRED WILLIAMS INTERNATIONAL DRIVING SERIES
Hometown girls Clare MacDonald and Tammy MacKay fared well at Thursday's Mildred Williams Ladies International Driving Series and today will be heading to Northside Downs in Cape Breton for Atlantic Canada's second leg of the event along with Kelly Case of Florida, co-ordinator Ann Curran, Ann Karin Larsen of Ontario, Angie Matthews and Norway teamster Anita Valstad.

CLARENCE FARM SERVICES LTD. RESULTS
August Clarence Farm Services Ltd. tabulations show Danny Romo edging out Truro's leading teamster Darren Crowe for the Cool Driver of the month recognition by two points with 54 in 22 drives.
One of Truro's younger owners, 17-year-old Travis Ellis, picked up Hot Horse accolades with the $2,000 claimer Good Night Rene deadlocked with 10 points with FGL Fantastic for Shubenacadie connection Henry
Smallwood.
For the second consecutive month, and seventh time this year, conditioner Blair Laffin delivered the best summary to rank as top trainer for August. Laffin sits atop the leaderboard with more than $30,000 accumulated in purse money in 2009 for trainers at Truro.

HORSE RACING NEW BRUNSWICK
INVITATIONAL
Tonight in Saint John, N.B, Paul Gray's top-class performer St. Pete Star will leave out of Post 6 in the $6,000 Horse Racing New Brunswick Invitational Pace, meeting Astronomical, Riccaras Sun, All Star Dragon, Mighty and Strong, Silver Dragon and Porthill Alf in this premier Maritime event.

MUSQ AVE FAITH
When Greg Munro sold Musq Ave Faith in May to Mount Pearl, NL., he was totally unaware of the impact the four-year-old mare would have on her new connection.
Faith Mitchum is a physically challenged 19-year-old who, with the help of her first standardbred, has been enjoying the thrill of jogging her horse in a double seated jog cart as well as experiencing the weekly excitement of watching Musq Ave Faith compete at the St. John's Racing and Entertainment Centre.

BEHIND THE GATE ON SALE
Having gone into the third printing in June of this year, the Prince Edward Island publication Behind The Gate is currently available for sale at the raceway office.
