Wins and losses for Colchester tennis players on Day 1

TRURO - It was an up and down day for Colchester County athletes on the tennis court Sunday at the 2009 Canada Games in P.E.I.
Truro's Dennis Keaveney and his boys doubles partner Brendan Nickerson, of Dartmouth, defeated Newfoundland and Labrador opponents Lewis Cook and Andrew Fitzgerald 7-6, 6-3. Keaveney and Nickerson then suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Alberta's Luke Manley and Tobiasz Strozyk.
Truro Tennis Clubmate Farina Rafiq and Julia Gray defeated Newfoundland and Labrador's Allison Day and Cynthia Williams 7-5, 6-4 in girls doubles, then dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision to Alberta's Britt and Erika
Voaklander.
In girls singles, Brookside resident Stephanie Bagnell fell 6-1, 6-1 to Alberta's Kristina Sanjevic after she handed Newfoundland's Daria Snow a 7-6, 6-4, 10-3 loss.
Nova Scotia currently sits fourth in its pool at 5-7 (matches won).
Alberta leads at 12-0.
All three Colchester athletes are back in action today against New Brunswick, and Quebec.
Quebec is second in the pool at 10-1 while New Brunswick is fifth at 1-11.
All tennis events are being held at Victoria Park in
Charlottetown.
