Special Olympians bring home medals

HALIFAX - The Nova Scotia Special Olympics Summer Games wrapped up recently.
Winners in track and field were:
Amherst
• Michelle Jaguary - Bronze in the 50-metre sprint and gold in the shot put.
• Mary Ann Belliveau - Silver in the 50-metre sprint and silver in the standing long jump.
• Patricia Spicer - Gold in the 100-metre and gold in the standing long jump.
• Savanna Snowdon - Gold in the 200-metre sprint and gold in the running long jump.
• Jarrett Green - Silver in the 50-metre sprint and gold in the shot put.
• Jason Rhinedress - Silver in the 100-metre sprint, bronze in the 200-metre sprint, gold in the 400-metre sprint, silver in the running long jump and gold in the shot put.
• Ryan Mootrey - Silver in the 100-metre sprint, silver in the shot put and bronze in the running long jump.
• Jason Chappell - Silver in the standing long jump and silver in the Shot put.
Springhill
• Lauren Davis - Silver in the 100-metre sprint, silver in the 200-metre sprint and gold in the shot put.
• Brad Cody - Gold in the 100-metre sprint.
• Matthew Porter - Bronze in the 100-metre sprint, bronze in the shot put and silver in the running long jump.
Pugwash
• Harriet Barbour - Gold in the 50-metre sprint.
• Amy Dares - Bronze in the 50-metre sprint, bronze in the shot put and gold in the standing long jump.
• Adrien Henderson - Gold in the standing long jump.
• Hughie Williams - Silver in the shot put.
• Joey Timmons - Gold in the 100-metre sprint, gold in the 200-metre sprint, silver in the 400-metre sprint and bronze in the running long jump.
The track and field coaches are Curt Speight, Martha Lee Saunders and Steve White.
The soccer team finished with a gold medal in the B division.
The team is comprised of Robert Babineau, John Hachey, Tim Bird, Rebecca Sprague, Rebecca LeBlanc and David Moore from Amherst, Oxford's David Teed and Terry Black of Springhill. Coaches are Lisa Hines, Stu Colson and Susan Hoeg.
