BIBLE HILL - Astronomical has drawn the rail for Saturday's $7,500 Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Cup, the signature race of Atlantic Grand Circuit Week at Truro Raceway.
Kenny Arsenault, one of the top drivers at Charlottetown Driving Park, has been given the driving assignment on the seven-year-old Astreos stallion, who is the richest and fastest entry in the eight-horse field with a 1:50 career best with close to $750,000 in earnings.
Trained by Dr. Ian Moore of Winsloe, P.E.I., Astronomical will be looking to regain his winning form after a disappointing performance in the Governor's Plate final at Charlottetown when he broke stride leaving and spoiled his bid for a fifth straight
victory.
Outlawpositivcharg, who won the Governor's Plate and has the season's fastest mile in Maritime racing (1:54.4), drew Post 5 for driver-trainer Terry Gallant of Summerside. The five-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding is fresh off a victory in the $8,000 Northside Downs Invitational at North Sydney last
Saturday.
Shipping in for his Maritime seasonal debut is PH Tornado, a four-year-old son of Grinfromeartoear owned by Dr. Jim Shive of Shubenacadie, a winner of six races this year, including a lifetime best of 1:51.3 taken at Tioga Downs in New York.
Todd Trites, Atlantic Canada's leading dash winner in 2008, gets the driving assignment from Post 2.
St. Pete's Star, owned by Paul Gray of Pugwash, will be looking for his first major win of the season as he leaves from Post 3 for Danny Romo.
Abby Best, who set a track record for aged pacing mares with a 1:55 victory for Clare MacDonald on Sunday, leaves from Post 4 for trainer Gussie MacLean of Port Hood.
Other starters are Scotian Sunset (Marc Campbell), San Marco Hanover (Ryan Ellis) and Porthill Alf (Mike Stevenson).
