AMHERST - Amherst Little League pitcher Alex VanSnick will be out of the Y's Guys lineup for a few games.
The 13-year old will be traveling to Stouffville, Ont., next week to take part in the National Karting Championships at the Goodwood racetrack.
It is the biggest race VanSnick has attended.
"Oh yeah, I'm pretty excited," said VanSnick. "There will be about 100 karters there, so there will be lots of competition. It should be fun."
This year VanSnick raced in the Honda Rotax two-cycle division and a four-cycle engine division in the Atlantic Kart Racing Series.
He finished the AKRS season in second place with the Honda Rotax engine and in first place with the four-cycle engine.
At nationals, he will race in a four-cycle engine.
"Because I won the AKRS with the four-cycle engine, that means somebody will be taking our four-cycle kart for free and paying for tires, the entrance fee and the registration," said VanSnick.
VanSnick and the rest of his family will leave Amherst on Monday and arrive in Stouffville, which is half an hour outside of Toronto, on Tuesday.
"Wednesday and Thursday are practice days, Friday is qualifying and the races begin on Saturday," said VanSnick.
"You have to finish well to make it to the finals on Saturday."
Depending on how well he does, VanSnick could compete in as many as 10 races.
"I think I should do well," said VanSnick. "But you never know with racing."
