BROOKFIELD, N.S. - Friends and family are mourning the deaths of two young adults in a tragic weekend accident in central Nova Scotia.
Mandi Balagot, 18, and Kyle Elliott, 22, were found Sunday night in a secluded maintenance shed off Highway 4 in the Mount Thom area.
"The cause of death has not been officially determined, however, evidence at the scene suggests carbon monoxide poisoning may have played a factor," said RCMP Sgt. Phil Oliver.
"No foul play is suspected."
The only power source to the shed was a generator.
Balagot, who lived in Hilden, N.S., brightened up everybody's day, said Jennie Mae Roy.
"She was a great person, a great friend. She had so much energy," Roy said. "She loved life."
Roy and Balagot had been friends since Grade 7 and played on the South Colchester Academy basketball team together during their high school days.
"She was always excited and passionate about everything she did and she loved her family," Roy said.
Elliott, from Brentwood, N.S., is well known in the motocross community and had raced in competitions across the country.
"Kyle is just full of energy all the time," Mitchell Cooke of Brookfield, N.S., said Monday from Ontario after racing there on Sunday.
Because the deaths occurred in a workplace, the Department of Labour is investigating.
