AMHERST - Amherst's Ryan Mackintosh won his first race south of the border winning a Bandolero feature in Bethel, N.Y. last week.
Mackintosh raced in New York on his way to North Carolina to compete in a series of events at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte and Orange County Speedway in Rougemont.
After a rough practice in which he battled an oil leak and traded paint with another racer, he started outside Row 5 in the feature at Lowe's.
The Scotia Hyundai Bandolero was involved in a seven-car pileup in Turn 3, destroying the front end and forcing him to retire for the night.
Last Saturday, he raced at the Independence Classic in Rougemont, placing fourth in the Young Guns division ahead of some of the top drivers in the United States.
Mackintosh was scheduled to race last night in the Lowe's Summer Shootout, the most prestigious series in North America for Bandoleros and Legends cars.
He is also racing tonight in Connecticut before returning home to compete at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax on Friday.
