TATAMAGOUCHE - A class that made history at North Colchester High School took its last bow Friday night.
More than 450 people packed into the rural school's gymnasium to watch as 35 young men and women graduated, closing one chapter of their lives and opening another.
"Through the years we have had our highs and our lows; we have made many unforgettable memories, and have grown as a class along the way," said Anthony Matheson during his valedictorian address.
He said they accomplished many things individually and as a team. Five members of the graduating class led the Mustangs senior boys basketball team to its first ever provincial banner.
They celebrated each other's achievements and comforted one another during personal tragedies.
"I know that wherever life takes us, each and every one of us will be successful in whatever we choose to do," said Matheson. "We leave NCHS with pride and joy, tears, relief and maybe just a bit smarter then when we started.
"No matter where we go in life, or how far we travel, we will remember and cherish the friendships we have made, and our hearts will stay rooted in Tatamagouche."
Seth Pickard-Tattrie, the school's student council president, said while the Grade 12 year was lots of fun, it was extremely hectic, a sentiment also felt by most of his classmates, as they worked hard to balance school, work and extracurricular activities.
He is looking forward to a break from school work for a few weeks before heading off to Mount Allison University with a Bell Family Achievement renewable entrance scholarship.
"It was fun but it's weird to think that you'll never be in a classroom with all these people ever again," said Pickard-Tattrie. "Graduation is the last event. The last thing we'll ever do as a class together."
More than 75 bursaries and more than a dozen scholarships were awarded to graduating students, along with a Queen Elizabeth II Medal, awarded to Brittany Hunt, and a Governor General Medal presented to Jenesta Hunt.
